About John Kornfeld

John is the principal and founder of the Law Offices of John A. Kornfeld, LLP, focusing on matrimonial law.  For many years, he has been named a New York Super Lawyer and as one of the Top Attorneys in the Metropolitan Area.  John is best known for his trial skills, his intellectually exacting approach to the law and the facts, and his ability to handle complex financial matters.He has tried to conclusion numerous matters before the Justices of the matrimonial part including financial cases and custody cases, and has briefed and argued numerous appeals to the Appellate Division, First and Second Departments. Before choosing to focus on matrimonial law in 2004, John had more than fifteen years of experience litigating and trying complex commercial cases, defending white collar criminal prosecutions, and representing persons and institutions in regulatory actions brought by the SEC and other governmental agencies.

John has lectured on both substantive and procedural matters to the Matrimonial Law Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York, has been elected as a Delegate from the New York State Bar Association’s Family Law Section, and currently sits on that Section’s Ethics Committee. John also sits on the faculty of the New York College of Matrimonial Trial Attorneys, where he has lectured and trained attorneys in trial techniques. John has been selected by the Court and his peers to sit as a Special Master supervising complex discovery disputes.

John graduated magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia College with a Bachelors degree in Comparative Literature, and with a Juris Doctor degree from the Yale Law School.
